Loan Repayment Opportunities

NIH Loan Repayment Program

You do the research. NIH will repay your student loans. That is the idea behind the National Institutes of Health Loan Repayment Programs (LRPs).

NIH wants to encourage outstanding health professionals to pursue careers in biomedical, behavioral, social, and clinical research. If you commit at least two years to conducting qualified research funded by a domestic nonprofit organization or U.S. federal, state, or local government entity, NIH may repay up to $35,000 of your qualified student loan debt per year, including most undergraduate, graduate, and medical school loans. Loan repayment benefits are in addition to the institutional salary you receive for your research.

Indian Health Service Loan Repayment Program (LRP)

The cost of a health professional education is high. The LRP Provides the financial freedom to pursue the future you've envisioned for yourself: a career with purpose and a sense of mission while treating patients who truly need you.

The HIS is an agency within the Department of Health and Human Services responsible for providing health care services to American Indians and Alaska Natives. The mission of HIS is to raise the physical, mental, social and spiritual health of American Indians and Alaska Natives to the highest level.

The LRP awards up to $20,000 per year for the repayment of qualifying health professions education loans. Award recipients agree to a two-year obligation to practice at an Indian health program site.
