The California Northstate University Office of Research provides unifying structural support for academic research for all CNU faculty across disciplines and colleges. The Office of Research has established University-level committees to ensure safe and ethical research practices. These include the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) to monitor recombinant DNA usage, mitigate risks to the public and environment and assure compliance with NIH guidelines; the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) to oversee policies and procedures for laboratory animal safety and ethical treatment; and the Institutional Review Board (IRB) charged with ensuring the necessary protections and ethical standards for research using human subjects.

The Office has further established all necessary infrastructure and procedures for complete compliance with NIH policies and federal codes pertaining to research using federal funding, allowing CNU to be in position to receive federal grants. The Office has assisted faculty from all colleges in preparing and acquiring grants and contracts from federal, state and private sponsors. The first NIH-sponsored grant awarded to CNU is currently commencing this summer.
