WHO WE ARE

Under the auspices of the Office of Academic Affairs, the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) is responsible for the overall advancement, direction, execution and compliance of California Northstate University’s (CNU) research endeavors. The ORSP provides leadership and management of University-wide research administration, infrastructure and services, and has established University-level committees to ensure safe and ethical research practices. These include the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) to monitor recombinant DNA usage, mitigate risks to the public and environment and assure compliance with NIH guidelines; the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) to oversee policies and procedures for laboratory animal safety and ethical treatment; and the Institutional Review Board (IRB) charged with ensuring the necessary protections and ethical standards for research using human subjects.

WHAT WE DO

The ORSP provides support and assistance to CNU faculty, college/department administrators, and support staff at both CNU Main and Branch campuses to ensure successful project completion and compliance throughout the life of the sponsored project. The ORSP also works with the research offices of each college and other departments and divisions to promote synergy and a collaborative culture across the University for the advancement of the CNU’s research enterprise. In collaboration with key stakeholders, the ORSP:

  • Streamlines administrative processes and minimizes the administrative burden for investigators conducting research by providing easily accessible and intuitive administrative information systems;
  • Partners with the faculty to create a culture of high esteemed research and scholarly achievement;
  • Develops and consistently implements well-documented processes and procedures that facilitate the conduct of sponsored research activities, while ensuring compliance with government stipulations, sponsor requirements and university policies;
  • Ensures seamless administration of research and scholarly activities from proposal development through timely award closeout;
  • Provides effective stewardship of sponsor funds and promotes positive sponsor interactions;
  • Provides college and department support staff with the necessary tools, resources, and training so that they can also enable investigators to successfully engage in scholarly activities; and

Mission Statement

The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) aims to grow, strengthen, promote, and safeguard the research enterprise at California Northstate University. The Office provides leadership in developing policies and plans for the University’s research advancement; and provides administrative support for the research needs of the faculty, staff, and students to advance CNU’s scientific vision, mission and goals. As a service and solutions-oriented office, the ORSP operates with a spirit of excellence, demonstrated by our attributes of integrity, professionalism, and respect.
