Eligibility for student financial aid awards is determined based on enrollment status, satisfactory academic progress, and cost of attendance. Our programs define full-time enrollment at 12 semester credits, and half-time enrollment at 6 semester credits. A student must complete a minimum of 12 semester credits each academic year to be eligible to advance to the next grade level for purposes of student financial aid eligibility.
Enrollment Status
A student must be enrolled at least half-time each semester term to attain and/or maintain eligibility for student financial aid. A student enrolled less than half-time in a semester term will not be considered eligible for a student financial aid award in that term.
Satisfactory Academic Progression
Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements are used to ensure a student progresses through his/her program at a pace necessary to successfully complete the program with progression limits. A student must meet all SAP requirements to remain eligible for student financial aid. For details about SAP, see the CNU General Catalog.
Cost of Attendance
The cost of attendance is an estimate of expected educational expenses for a period of enrollment. California Northstate University utilizes the consumer expenditure survey data published by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics to project the costs associated with other educationally related expenses (e.g. room and board, transportation, etc.). The cost of attendance is the cornerstone of establishing a student’s financial need, as it sets a limit on the total aid a student may receive for a given period of enrollment.
